Accommodations
Painter's Lodge offers a wide variety of ocean and garden view rooms to suit individual
tastes. Each room has a colour television, telephone, balcony or terrace, and a bathroom with tub and shower. Ask your reservation
coordinator about specialty rooms.
Marine Adventure Centre
The Painter's Lodge Marine Adventure Centre, located adjacent to the main lodge building, is where
seasoned and novice anglers alike can get fishing licenses as well as helpful tips to ensure their success and enjoyment on
the water. Guests booked on fishing packages may wish to book extra fishing in addition to the pre-set scheduled times; if
so, arrangements should be made well in advance through your reservation coordinator, or at the Marine Adventure Centre. Note:
we require 24 hours notice of cancellation of pre-booked extra fishing.
What To Bring
We provide Helly-Hansen two-piece wet weather gear and rubber boots for all guests,
but you are welcome to bring your own. Dress is casual. Bring a warm jacket, hat, gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, camera, film,
personal toiletries and your swimsuit for the pool and hot tub. Do not forget to bring any necessary medication (if you are
prone to sea-sickness, we recommend you bring your own treatment).
Water Shuttle
A complimentary 10 minute water shuttle regularly transports guests between April Point Resort and
Painter's Lodge. This allows Painters Lodge guests to enjoy additional activies such as kayaing in Gowlland Harbour, helicopter
tours, and exploring Quadra Island on a scooter or mountain bike. In addition, guests may enjoy additional dining facilities
such as the Sushi Bar or April Points Dining Room overlooking the beautiful Discovery Passage. Guests may also enjoy a meal
on the outdoor patio or a spirited game of checkers or chess on the giant outdoor board.
A La Carte Fishing
We encourage all guests who are not on a package to pre-book their fishing before arrival to ensure
the availability of preferred fishing times. If you are unsure of your arrival time, you will need to be at the Marine Adventure
Centre no later than 3:00 pm to ensure a guide will be available for the evening fishing trip. Any additional fishing can
be arranged on a daily basis as requested. Note: we require 24 hours notice of cancellation of pre-booked a la carte fishing.
Tyee Club
If you are visiting Painter's Lodge between July 15 and September 15, you can try for
membership in the Tyee Club of British Columbia, founded in 1924. The time-honoured tradition of Tyee fishing is a well-respected practice in Campbell River, and the ultimate challenge for any adventurous angler.
A Tyee is a Chinook (King) salmon weighing 30 lbs. or more and caught from a rowboat using registered light tackle. Inquire
at the Marine Adventure Centre for additional information and rules. You can book rowboat fishing prior to your arrival, or
make arrangements during your stay. Rowboat fishing is not included as part of any package.
Fish Handling
Fish will be cleaned and refrigerated during your stay with us. Freezing is available upon request
for extended stays. If you prefer to have your catch canned or smoked, we can deliver your catch to the cannery for a reasonable
cost. The cannery will forward it directly to you after processing. There is no charge to our guests for cleaning, refrigerating
or freezing of your catch. Fish boxes and gel packs are available for transport. We recommend that guests driving home bring
a cooler for their catch.
Identification
Guests arriving from outside of Canada must have proper identification to clear Canada Customs. Oak
Bay Marine Group is not responsible if a delay should occur. It is vital to keep your fishing license with you on your return
trip home. You may be asked by Customs or Fisheries to produce it.
